Spring Chickens........

....of the knitted variety!...
.......and ducks.......
....pretty potted daffies......
.....bunnies come in all shapes and sizes!....

......all made by the clever hands of the nice ladies of the local craft group here in my village.
Makes a pleasant distraction from the weather, don't you think? Don't know about you but I'm heartily sick of the winter now. No snow lying here but drive 5 miles due north and the fields and hills look like a gigantic white patchwork quilt. So much for Spring Equinox, eh?
Hope you're all managing to keep warm and cosy, wherever you are.
Have a great weekend.

Radio Head........

.....I love listening to the wireless, ok digital radio these days, so this morning I tuned in to....
....for my daily dose of 'kulchur' and there was an interesting debate taking place about the suitability of your potential or existing daughter/son-in-law and how best to welcome them into the bosom of the family and one lady went so far as to say that she actually Googled or Facebooked any new girlfriends her son had brought home and if she didn't like what she discovered about the poor girls, she went out of her way to make the relationship hit the rocks! Imagine going public with that bit of information! I couldn't actually believe that such Mothers existed but quite obviously they do! I'd say those unsuspecting girlfriends had made a lucky escape, don't you? Might you be tempted to sneak a peek at any potential new members of your family.....or even existing ones?! Or do you think the same as me, that sometimes less is more!

Anyway, I had to switch the radio off after that and go and collect some......

.....fabulous fresh eggs....now that the dark, dismal wintry days are over - well for this week, at least -  the hens are laying more consistently now....
.....and after a quick wash (i.e. the eggs, not the hens - I'm not that keen!), just a little foible of mine - the eggs must be clean before storing them - they look much more appetising, don't you think?
....all ready for a lovely golden omelette for lunch, yum yum!

Back to the radio, if I'm in the mood, I love 'Planet Rock' and 'Smooth Radio 70's' and on Sundays, when I can,  I love listening to Johnnie Walker on Radio 2 in the afternoon and on Friday evenings the dulcet tones of Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue fame on Radio Scotland have been known to lull me to sleep. I'm such an old hippy at heart! What do you like listening to?

Thanks for All Those Recent Comments
You're ALL FABULOUS!

Wonderful Wednesdays..........

....my best day is a Wednesday.
No work, because it's 'Grandaughter Day', when we get to spend the whole afternoon together (used to be the whole day from early morning but she's at nursery now for half the morning and will be at school come September!). So while I'm waiting to pick her up, my first stop is the local library. I've always loved going to the library - even though my boys gave me a Kindle for Xmas the year before last which has hardly seen the light of day. There's just something about the hardware of books themselves that I love - always been the case since I was knee-high - and the obsession has never left me. I browse the aisles for ages, looking for the latest titles from my favourite authors and if there's no joy there, I invariably end up in the 'craft' section where the variety of new and inspirational books with pretty pictures immediately draw me in. Here is a selection from my latest haul.
....Jane Crowfoot's latest offering is my favourite so far. It's filled with the loveliest images and although the projects seem traditional, they would also fit into a contemporary setting. Some of them are potential heirlooms in my opinion and in particular, this gorgeous cushion cover....
.....has my vote...
or what about this stunning crocheted throw/bedcover....

...love the colour scheme.....
....and what about this cheeky little felted rug?Although in this house, it's an accident waiting to happen when my feet get caught in the spaces between the flowers!
....another book which caught my eye was this one by Selina Lake and Sara Norrman.....

......fabulous colour......

....I think I could just about manage this look!

....sumptious room settings...
...but of course, they're all just lovely images in books....the real thing is a lot less inviting, especially on Wednesdays!..sort of a bit like this layout, in fact...
....but at least the animals are lined up neatly in a row....
.....perhaps I could draft in some help for the clean-up operation...
maybe Farmer Daisy might help with her tractor and trailer....
....on second thoughts, I'd best get on with it myself, she looks a little miffed!
*****
Have you been to the library lately and if so, what took your fancy - fact or fiction?

Thanks for all the comments you've been kindly leaving lately and a big 'Hello' to my two new followers, Sue and Jane.
See you all soon.

Room With a View.......

.....no, not my room unfortunately but I do get to goggle at the pretty snowy landscape....
and sometimes I even get the chance to cast my eyes upwards hoping for some celestial inspiration when the boredom kicks in (this is happening more and more frequently, lately....I'm sooooo ready to retire but unfortunately, the UK Government, in their infinite wisdom, have other plans for me!)....
.....so in the meantime, I'll just keep admiring the view!
 ***********
It's not entirely all doom and gloom at Chez Moi. Sometimes little things happen which make my day. I had two of those happen last week via the Postman (that doesn't sound right but you know what I mean?!). He delivered a nice parcel all the way from the other side of the World from my Spring Bouquet Swap (hosted by my pal Betty) Partner, Gill who sent me.....
.....a really pretty and useful foldaway bag which she handmade for me..
...isn't it clever? You fold it away in it's own little wrapper and stash it in your handbag until you need it again...it's already had an outing to the library and it holds loads of books and is very sturdy....
...and it came with a cute little Koala Bear card too. Thanks, Gill for being my swap partner and thanks Betty for organising this sweet and simple swap.

.....then the next day, the Postman delivered another FAB package and this time, it was from my pal, Shaz who very thoughtfully sent me.......
a beautifully wrapped (Shaz made the wrapping herself by machine-sewing pieces of maps and pages from old books together and stamping them with a cheery sunshine-y face.....isn't she clever?) and very trendy new knitting book,
which includes delectable patterns such as these ....

 ....I love this hat....definitely on my list-of-things-to-do.....

......alongwith these very pretty handwarmers....
......and this is my favourite - I love the colour....
...and this is the very appropriate card that Shaz sent me - it's me to a 't', I just need to get me some cats now!

Lost Treasures......and New Treasures

...So, clearing away the cobwebs in anticipation of Spring being just around the corner, I found these little postcards I picked up from the Jersey Museum a while ago, when I was on that lovely island for a short break. They were exhibiting some of Marilyn Monroe's garb from a couple of her films, including 'Bus Stop' and 'How to Marry a Millionaire'. Some lucky person had acquired the clothes for their private collection!

....perfectly waspish waistline!...

....the beading on this dress was awe-inspiring...

Anyway, I was struck by how tiny all the garments were, I'd always thought of her as big and buxom! Then I remembered about something that reminded me of her basques which I'd won in a raffle a few years ago, so I brushed away some more cobwebs (Miss Haversham's got nothing on me!) on top of my wardrobe until I eventually found it......

.....'what the heck'?, I hear you say, has Nana gone Gothic?.....

...ok, I'd better explain that the raffle prize was a bespoke item of your choice, handmade by a lady who makes....Boned Corsets!! All made up to your own specifications, measurements and colours.....so I chose.....
....some lovely pink satin for the lining.....
...and of course, no self-respecting corset would be complete without lots of feathers!.....
......and some fabulous beading.....
 ....more feathers!....
......beautiful black satin.....

.....a low-ish cut neckline.....

...and even more beads!.....And there we have the most beautiful basque you ever did see....well, I liked it at least!

I have to say, though, that I've never actually been brave enough to be seen in public wearing this beautiful piece of work - ladies of a certain age and all that! - (nor in private for that matter, thanks very much), my sister said I looked like a funky chicken when I tried it on....so my dressmaker's dummy will have the privilege of wearing it for a while to show it off (she's the only one in the house with a waistline at the moment!)and be admired for the hours of creative work which went into making it.....it really is a piece of art in itself......hope you like it too.

.....to be continued....
New treasures later....I must away and be a dutiful daughter......

Happy Mother's Day
