For those who know me a little better than most, you may have noticed that I complain a lot about my working life. Now, this is not because I don't like working or that I'm lazy! I come from a very long line of grafters (hard-working types) and I seem to have instilled that same work ethic into my children, thankfully. No, I've just become a little tired, jaded and fed-up listening to my alarm clock going off before 7.00am each morning. By now, I had hoped to be a lady-of-leisure, happy in my retirement, able to go about my daily business without the hindrance of being at the mercy of someone else's timeclock. Sadly, that's not how it's panned out for me, in these my 'golden years' so for the time being I must remain a wage slave and begin to appreciate the things I'm able to provide for myself and my family, for without my work, my lifestyle would change quite dramatically and I may end up liking it a lot less than my current situation. So, with this in mind, I'm trying to adopt the 'accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative' frame of mind and I thought I'd make a start today on my morning walk with my four-legged friends......
you'll notice there's a new kid on the block, the little black labrador in the foreground is a new addition to the work family
he's a cheeky little chappy who has a lovely nature
and he stays very close to his big step-brother
up and over the stile
and past the new additions to the sheep family up on the hill
stopping to clean off the sheep evidence from my wellies!
then finally we reach our destination for today - 'Daffodil Hill' - it's not really called that, it's just a name I made up for it because there's an abundance of different types of daffodils growing randomly on the hillside
I love these Paperwhites and the way they turn their beautiful faces towards the sun, as if they're drinking in all that wonderful Vitamin C!
and that's our walk over for the day and soon it will be time to go home and enjoy the long weekend for the Easter Break and get on with my own stuff, e.g.
potting-up these Sweetpeas which I only planted a week ago but which have really enjoyed basking in the sun on my kitchen windowsill, inside their 'progagation' house (it's actually the container that the strawberries came in but it worked a treat to bring the seeds on) and then there's always
knitting in any quiet moments that the weekend allows (not hopeful), using up some wool from my stash for a stripey Summer Cardi.
Lots of positives to be going on with in the meantime, don't you think?

I hope you all enjoy the extended weekend. I know I will!Let me know what you're all up to.

Thanks, once again, for being here and sparing me some of your precious time
Lots of Love

Hello I like your new header. Dear little Labrador, he"s very like the one on our walk yesterday. The dog walk must be something to look forward to on a work day. Daffodil hill is pretty. Hope you get time to knit your cardi. Colour combi is nice for summer. Enjoy your weekend. Betty x
ReplyDeleteNana, it is certainly the right thing to do with the 'positive/negative' way of thinking....sometimes hard to do I know but very necessary to get us ladies of a certain age who are still working through the dark days....and your work environment is such a beautiful place...walking dogs in such a spot wouldnt seem at all like work to me! but of course I know it is the feeling of being owned or in jail that sometimes can cross our minds.....but things change and who knows what the future holds....continue to cherish your beautiful family and have a great Easter weekend..x ps sometimes I curse my family work ethic....but I didn't marry into money and I never had equipment or desire to be a gold digger!!xx
ReplyDeleteYour stripes are LOVELY! Wow! You're good! I'm so glad you have time to enjoy the Easter weekend, Nana! I don't blame you for getting a little tired from all the hard work you do. I'd love it if you would email me and tell me what a typical work day looks like. I love hearing about it.
ReplyDeleteI shall pick up my stripes today. You've inspired me! Oh! I LOVE the dafs!
You are quite right in looking for the good things and you have an embarrassment of riches displayed. Your sweet peas make me want to get a package and start some indoors, too. They have grown splendidly.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand your thoughts. I am working more now than ever, I have a college student, one more starting next year and a three year old. Seems crazy. I really love my job, I am blessed but hate the driving, it wears me out. This weekend I hope to recuperate from all my headaches and just play with yarn, yet I know I will clean up, work with Little Buddy and do all the household stuff that needs to get done. I would love to be able to walk out my door and pass by sheep, a dream of mine!
ReplyDeleteHugs and Happy Easter,
Meredith
I so want that garden gate!
ReplyDeleteHello Anne, I like your "glass half full" attitude. It is one I try to take amongst all the negatives that life throws at us. Thank you for taking me on this lovely walk with you - it is lovely to see the daffys in your part of the world as our leaves fall around us now. Your walking companions are beautiful. Sweetpeas are one of my all time favourite flowers. Have a blessed Easter Anne x0x
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling your pain, sister - know exactly where you are coming from on the work/income front. If wishes were horses, I would not be riding the pony I'm on right now! But, we take solace from the bright spots - be they puppies or daffodils or a little yarn-time. I have some family time planned, some kitchen time and some fabric therapy. Here's hoping all our wishes come true this weekend. Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteI'm just catching up here - lovely to see the dogs :o)
ReplyDeleteI find myself looking forward to the time when the mister and I can ignore the alarm clock in the mornings, if only that wasn't so very far ahead!
